Willie Hugh Nelson (born April 29, 1933) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, political activist and actor. He was one of the main figures of outlaw country, a subgenre of country music that developed in the late 1960s as a reaction to the conservative restrictions of the Nashville sound.

👉Country music icon Willie Nelson is still going strong and has announced a fall leg to his 2023 Outlaw Music Festival tour, including a Friday, Sept. 22 concert at Pine Knob. The dates are part of Nelson’s largest-ever Outlaw tour, a celebration of the year of the singer-songwriter’s 90th birthday, which is April 29. The Pine Knob date is also set to include performances by Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros. featuring The Wolfpack, the String Cheese Incident, and Particle Kid.

April 20, 2020: Nelson did a benefit concert as a variety show titled Come and Toke It. Some of the content was cannabis-themed, and some of the proceeds will be used to support The Last Prisoner Project, a restorative justice program relating to persons convicted of cannabis related crimes.
November 21, 1986: "Red Headed Stranger" LP was certified certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
September 29, 2018: Nelson offered a free concert in Austin supporting Beto O'Rourke's Senate run. The last number he performed was "Vote 'Em Out", a new track that was subsequently released as a single.
April 20, 2012: A life-size statue to honor Nelson was placed at the entrance of Austin City Limits' new studio. A non-profit organization Capital Area Statues commissioned sculptor Clete Shields to execute the project.
2010
November 26, 2010: Nelson was arrested in Sierra Blanca, Texas, for possession of six ounces of marijuana found in his tour bus while traveling from Los Angeles back to Texas. He was released after paying bail of $2,500.
May 26, 2010: The Associated Press reported that Nelson had cut his hair, and Nashville music journalist Jimmy Carter published a photograph of the pigtail-free Nelson on his website.
June 23, 2010: Nelson was inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry.
