February 1. 2023: NPR: ​Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson and more named 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees
Wednesday morning brought the announcement of the 2023 nominations for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: Among the first-timers in this year's class of potential inductees are Sheryl Crow, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Warren Zevon, Missy Elliott and The White Stripes, the last two receiving their nominations in the first year of eligibility.

The "Red-Headed Stranger" was on the red carpet at the Paramount Theatre Sunday for the premiere of "When Angels Sing" at South by Southwest.

Sept 13, 1980: Nelson performed on the south lawn of the White House. First Lady Rosalynn Carter and Nelson performed a duet of Ray Wylie Hubbard's "Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother".

May 26, 2010: The Associated Press reported that Nelson had cut his hair, and Nashville music journalist Jimmy Carter published a photograph of the pigtail-free Nelson on his website. 
June 23, 2010: Nelson was inducted into the Library of Congress's ​National Recording Registry.
November 26, 2010: Nelson was arrested in Sierra Blanca, Texas, for possession of six ounces of marijuana found in his tour bus while traveling from Los Angeles back to Texas. He was released after paying bail of $2,500.
April 20, 2012:  A life-size statue to honor Nelson was placed at the entrance of Austin City Limits' new studio.  A non-profit organization Capital Area Statues commissioned sculptor Clete Shields to execute the project.
September 29, 2018: Nelson offered a free concert in Austin supporting Beto O'Rourke's Senate  run. The last number he performed was "Vote 'Em Out", a new track that was subsequently released as a single.
 April 20, 2020: Nelson did a benefit concert as  a variety show titled Come and Toke It. Some of the content was cannabis-themed, and some of the proceeds will be used to support The Last Prisoner Project, a restorative justice program relating to persons convicted of cannabis related crimes.
