The Alexanders and three other couples bought what is known as the "lead sheet" in August. The song later made famous by Patti Page has been recorded by more than 500 musical artists and has sold more than 10 million copies. It is also one of Tennessee's state songs. Born Clara Ann Fowler on Nov. 8, 1927 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On radio KTUL with Al Klauser and his Oklahomans, as Ann Fowler in the late 1940's. Another singer was billed as "Patti Page" for the Page Milk Company show on KTUL. When she left, Ann Fowler took her place and her name. -Signed by Mercury Records in 1947, she used multi-voice effect on her recordings and charted 81 Top 100 hits, 1948-68, including four #1's which were All My Love (1950), The Tennessee Waltz (1951), I Went To Your Wedding (1952) and The Doggie In The Window (1953).
-Patti Page released many memorable, melodic singles which made the Top 40 including Mockin' Bird Hill (1951), Detour (1951), Father, Father (1953), Changing Partners (1953), Cross Over The Bridge (1954), Let Me Go Lover! (1954)Allegheny Moon (1956), Old Cape Cod (1957) and Left Right Out Of Your Heart (Hi Lee Hi Lo Hi Lup Up Up) all on the Mercury record label. -Patti Page moved to Columbia records in 1963 and released several singles including the Top Ten single Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte (1963). |
