Ross Douthat, Bill Kristol Talk Harris’ Campaign Failures at Harvard Event
Galston said Harris cycled through three insufficient theories of the case during her campaign: focusing on reproductive rights to “mobilize an army of concerned women,”; drawing a contrast between her “decency” and Trump’s “indecency,”; and finally, making the case that Trump poses a threat to democracy. “I happen to believe that there’s a lot of substance to that argument,” Galston said. “But here’s the problem: there is a mountain of political science evidence to the effect that for people who feel hard pressed economically or insecure physically, democracy is a luxury good.” (Harvard Crimson 11/8/24) READ MORE>>>>>

Next on our list is Bill Gates, one of two founders of Microsoft. A vocal proponent of alternative proteins, Gates has called plant-based meat “the future,” and said that wealthy countries “should move to 100 percent synthetic beef” in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with cattle. More importantly, he’s put his money where his mouth is, so to speak. Gates has invested in plant-based meat companies like Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods, as well as the cultivated meat company Upside Foods, formerly known as Memphis Meats. Upside Foods is one of just two cultivated meat companies that have been given FDA approval to sell its products commercially in the U.S. Gates has also given money to Neutral Foods, a food company that aims to be carbon neutral by purchasing carbon offsets to compensate for the emissions its products cause. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has also provided grants to a number of organizations working on alternative proteins, including the Good Food Institute. Premiere folded in 2007, but Libby resumed writing a monthly column for Entertainment Weekly in 2011 and occasionally contributes reviews to The New Yorker.

October 18, 2024: Gertz article at National Memo: Fox News’ Wednesday programming encapsulated the transformation of the network’s once-vaunted “news side” into an extension of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. In the morning, Fox aired what it had touted as a town hall with Trump featuring an audience of women voters. In reality, the event was functionally a pep rally for the former president, who was guided by Fox anchor Harris Faulkner through questions from a crowd Fox stocked with his supporters. Vice President Kamala Harris received a starkly different reception that night when she sat down with Fox anchor Bret Baier, at one point catching him using a deceptive clip to downplay Trump’s rants about “the enemy from within.” Fox’s “news side” has been in steep decline since Trump took over the Republican Party and the network rebranded as his personal propaganda outlet. But even by those standards, the partisan divide it displayed on Wednesday was striking and would be catastrophically embarrassing to Fox’s employees if any of them were still capable of humiliation.
November 2, 2024: Gertz on Trump's denial of hearing the Puerto Rico joke at his rally: It would be so easy for a normal person to say, 'I heard the joke, it's terrible and I'm sorry that it happened at my event' but he is physically incapable of doing that.
his campaign vetted the jokes and removed a couple of them because one of them called the vice president the C word. And then they loaded them into the Teleprompter. This was an approved message.

Jonah Goldberg: Voters wishing for an alternative to Trump and Biden got one.
Unfortunately, it's RFK Jr.“Our campaign is a spoiler all right,” Kennedy said last week while announcing his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, in Oakland. “It is a spoiler for President Biden and for President Trump.” But there’s the rub: The same duopoly that Kennedy is running against ensures that he can be a spoiler for only one candidate. Hofstadter also said, “Third parties are like bees: once they have stung, they die.” And the party they sting is the one they are closest to. As of now, it looks like Kennedy wants to sting leftward, at Biden. His choice of Shanahan — a progressive, young, Asian American, California-based tech lawyer — is one indication. Another: Timothy Mellon, the biggest donor to Kennedy’s Super PAC, is also the biggest donor to Trump’s. It seems unlikely that spoiling Trump’s candidacy would be his priority. February 11, 2025: Jim Acosta on his Podcast: Apparently last night on Fox, comedian Greg Gutfeld — I don’t believe he’s a journalist. He’s a comedian there — took an interest in this program. Thank you so much for devoting eight minutes of your television program to my Substack show. I really appreciate it. As I posted on X earlier today, don’t you guys at Fox have anything else to cover? And how did that work out the last time around when you had Fox personalities texting with the chief of staff over at the White House, Mark Meadows during the January 6th insurrection, telling Meadows at the time that this looks bad. Yeah, no kidding. Greg apparently had something else to say about one of my houseplants. I don’t know if you’re still following along here, but Greg Gutfeld during his segment on Fox about my show, this Substack show talked about my my houseplant and I brought it right here. This is it right here. This is the the little guy. He was in the background in one of the videos and Greg thought it was hilarious and talked about it on his show. Imagine having a show like his and he has nothing to offer. And comments about my plants? Houseplants Greg! Houseplants. Truth be told, you’re a bit of a potted plant yourself, aren’t you, Greg? A potted plant that’s not allowed to do anything other than pump out the lies that passes for news on your network. So keep right on sitting there, Greg. Just like a potted plant.
