Florida school district removes dictionaries from libraries to review for possible bans
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida school district has removed more than 1,600 books — including dictionaries and encyclopedias — to review them for possible bans under Florida law that prohibits books with sexual content. The district also pulled biographies from Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Oprah, Nicki Minaj, and Thurgood Marshall. Also on the list are books by John Green, Stephen King, and Nicholas Sparks. Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly’s “Killing Jesus” and “Killing Reagan,” were also pulled, according to the Florida Freedom to Read Project. (Kevin Accettulla/WFLA 1/11/24) READ MORE>>>>> |
The dictionaries' definitions of words such as "sex" would potentially put them in violation of the law, which placed restrictions on children being taught about sexual conduct. |
Book Ban in Florida District Now Includes Dictionaries
A Florida school district has pulled three dictionaries which define words like “sex” off of library shelves as part of its review of Florida’s controversial HB1069 bill. The bill requires stricter controls on sexual education materials by the Department of Education, and has led to widespread removal of books which describe sexual conduct from schools. The American Heritage Children’s Dictionary, Webster’s Dictionary for Students, and Merriam-Webster’s Elementary Dictionary are just some of the 2,800 books that have been taken off the shelves in Escambia County. On Wednesday, advocacy group PEN America took the district to court over the decision. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has previously called accusations that he was banning books in Florida a “hoax.” (Daily Beast 1/10/24) READ MORE>>>>> |

Dershowitz joins Miami Herald effort to get full list of Epstein ‘John Does’ unsealed
MIAMI — Famed lawyer Alan Dershowitz has asked the judge in a previously settled and sealed libel suit involving Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime girlfriend, to unseal a full list of “J. Does” — associates of the sex-trafficking multimillionaire who were named in the course of the litigation. The judge this week unsealed the file — and released the first 1,000 pages of documents — but did not provide a who’s-who index of those who had come up as witnesses, victims or colleagues of the notorious couple. Dershowitz, who was a friend of and lawyer for the late financier, is piggybacking on a motion made by The Miami Herald, which spent years in court trying to get the full, unredacted file unsealed, finally succeeding this week. (Julie K Brown/ The Herald Palladium 1/4/24)

Hannity Moved To Florida And New York Will Never Get Him Back! So Stop Begging, New York!
Bad news for all the denizens of New York who cherish and adore Sean Hannity, so we guess this post is addressed to one old shithole racist on Staten Island named Carl: Hannity has moved to Florida. Yes, just like fired Fox News host Tucker Carlson before him. (Tucker lives in Florida when he doesn’t have important duties to attend to with his Twitter show, which is filmed in the heart-shaped tub in his lesbian Unabomber she-shed in Maine.) Hannity made a very big deal of it on both his radio show yesterday and on his TV show last night. You could tell it was breaking news even if the TV was on mute, because the chyron said “BREAKING NEWS” and that “BLUE STATE EXODUS CONTINUES.” We guess Sean Hannity is the Moses of this situation, except he’s leading five half-dead white racists on Rascal scooters to the Golden Corral in Tallahassee.
