==Bryan Adams===============
Since I was born in the Summer of 1969, appreciating Bryan’s Adam’s music has been easy. When I first started attending Karaoke nights in college at Rick’s Cafe, the Summer of 69 was one of my go to songs to perform along with Can’t Fight This Feeling by Reo Speedwagon and You Might Think by the Cars. As Bryan Adams was releasing hit singles year after year, a friend from Ohio introduced me to another Canadian artist, a Christian band called the Kry.The Kry is rock group from Quebec, Canada who have been ministering to audiences for thirty years. While not every song sounds like Bryan Adams, their ballads remind me of Everything I Do, the theme song from one of the Robinhood films. The one song from the Kry which has left a lasting impression is When You Die. --Jay Mankus; Express Yourself For Him; The Crossover Collection Week 4: The Bryan Adams of Christian Music 2.25.23
Phillipa Hanna’s taken a super duper pop song of Bryan Adams ‘Everything I Do’ and done a heart touching worship makeover of it and we are absolutely loving it.....We love the way the lyrics have been modified to praise our King and the song just leads you into worship. --Faith Pot; Singer Does Gospel Makeover Of Bryan Adams ‘Everything I Do’ 5.3.22
“When I heard, I had to Google what the Dove Awards even were. Then, to learn that churches had been using my songs for decades floored me. I wrote these songs about girlfriends, one-night stands, and my wife, but certainly not God...........While I may not be a Christian, who am I to say that they can’t use the songs in church? I am a man of the people. Everything I do, I do it for the fans, ya know? In fact, in light of this award, I am working with my record label on releasing a worship album compilation. I hope to accompany this with some tour dates. I have been in touch with a man called Carman about joining me on tour. Apparently, he was big in the 90’s, like I was. It should be huge!” - Brian Adams on The Dove Awards committee announcing that they will be presenting him with a Lifetime Achievement Dove Award. --Feb 2017
On the night before Good Friday, a few hundred people were treated to a religious experience at a grand downtown Vancouver church, courtesy of hometown boy Bryan Adams. The once-Vancouverite played a thrilling acoustic set at an invitation-only concert at St. Andrews Wesley Church to promote his new album, 11.
"You know the last time I played in this area I think it was a nightclub called The Cave," he told the crowd. "So it's good to be back." Billed as a private, intimate event, it lived up to the promise, with Adams speaking directly to the audience - partly filled with people he knew - and audience members feeling comfortable talking back. --The Globe & Mail; Bryan Adams concert a religious experience 3.21.08 |
Now, let’s bring Bryan Adams into the mix. I already mentioned that as I was driving home today I heard Everything I Do. I noticed that it does not have any words in it explicit enough to tell the listener for whom it was written. The only object he refers to is “you,” with no reference to the usual “baby,” “girl,” or “lover.” Therefore, it could be a song sung from a woman to a man or a man to a woman. Fair enough. I’m sure we can all think of examples of songs that are written in such a vague fashion. As I listened to it I began to wonder what would happen if we were to sing that song in our church. Couldn’t we just direct the song towards God? Listen to these words:
Look into my heart – you will find
There’s nothin’ there to hide
Take me as I am – take my life
I would give it all – I would sacrifice
Don’t tell me it’s not worth fightin’ for
I can’t help it – there’s nothin’ I want more
You know it’s true
Everything I do – I do it for you
There’s no love – like your love
And no other – could give more love
There’s nowhere – unless you’re there
All the time – all the way
There are songs we sing in church that are little different than that. Consider Sonicflood’s I Want To Know You:
In the secret, in the quiet place
In the stillness You are there
In the secret, in the quiet hour I wait only for You
Cause, I want to know You more
I want to know You more
I want to hear Your voice
I want to know You more
I want to touch You
I want to see Your face
I want to know You more
Surely if heard outside a Christian context no one would guess that I Want To Know You is directed to God. Similarly, inside a Christian context I doubt if anyone would guess that Everything I Do is just another mainstream love song. Evidently this further complicates the matter.
So again I ask, what constitutes a Christian song? Though certainly not an exhaustive list, here are some options. Perhaps a Christian song is:
So might Everything I Do become the “Heart of Worship” of the next generation. I certainly hope not as I simply can't imagine my church singing anything by Bryan Adams, but if it helped Christians bring glory to their creator, who would I be to complain?-Tim Challies; Challies; Christian

- A song with explicitly or obviously Christian lyrics. This speaks of the song’s content.

A couple of years later, I was at an MAYC weekend in London. This was a Christian gathering where thousands of young people all dressed in yellow and green, came together to worship and show their love of God. As a young Christian it always amazed me how many young people would be at the MAYC weekends – so many that they could fill the Royal Albert Hall twice. My mum made me some yellow and green dungarees especially for my many trips to MAYC weekends.
This particular year we were in the Sunday morning worship. I was always totally blown away by the worship as I usually ended up in tears of joy and happiness that we were all gathered as one worshipping God.
The music started to play and on the big screen was a picture of Jesus hanging on the cross. I soon realised that the music playing was ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You’.
It was in that instant that this song took on a completely different meaning to me.
This song could have been written about how Jesus died on the cross. Similar to my journey of faith, I have had to search and find where God is in my life, and the sense of peace I find on my journey with God as I travel through my life with him by my side.
“and when you find me there, you’ll search no more”
We all enjoy a good love story, and Jesus’ is probably the greatest love story ever told. John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” This is where it all made sense for me, this is where my faith started, a man called Jesus died for me.
The words of the song are so inspiring and resonate in me, telling of the great love that Jesus has for us and that I am “worth dyin for”. The song talks of sacrifice and how we need to give it our all to follow Jesus, I have certainly found that following Jesus can be a rocky road at times.
Ok. So maybe Bryan Adams didn’t have God on his mind when he wrote these beautiful lyrics but for me this song has been a ‘go to’ song for me as a reminder of Jesus’s great sacrifice and love for us. It has it all ! --The Friday Fix; ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It for You’ – Bryan Adams

He (Bryan Adams) is spiritual and appears heavily conflicted and fluid on the subject. from writing about God to vocalising his fandon of black/satanic metal, its a twister trying to pin a title on him. his recent blasting of Republicans and their pandering to the Christian right has left religious fans yet again alienated from Ryan. my feeling is he is deep down a Christian and will end up that way later in life --Answers; What religion is Bryan Adams the singer?
