Produced by Jerry Kasenetz, Steve Katz, and Chiprut, the single was issued by Buddah Records and entered the U.S. Hot 100 in January 1968, rising to # 4 on the chart. It was also a hit in the UK, where it reached #2 on the singles chart. It later became one of the best selling singles of all time. The 1910 Fruitgum Company is an American bubblegum pop band of the 1960s. The group's Hot 100 hits were "Simon Says", "May I Take A Giant Step", "1, 2, 3, Red Light", "Goody Goody Gumdrops", "Indian Giver", "Special Delivery", and "The Train". Guitarist Frank Jeckell claimed to have adopted the name from a candy wrapper that he found in his attic.
